Dr. Roberta Fedele

Clinical Psychologist

With over 20 years of experience as a clinical psychologist, I specialize in using psychodynamic and relational psychotherapy to treat adults and children with a wide range of difficulties.

Typically, I begin a client’s therapeutic program by scheduling a few preliminary exploratory meetings, with an aim of gaining an understanding of the problem and mutually agreeing on a treatment path achievable objectives, and milestones along the way.

For children and adolescents below 14 years old my therapeutic program includes a first parents intake session, three meetings with the child/ teens, and a restitution/ feedback session again with the parents. From 15 years old onward the parent intake interview needs to be evaluated case by case and the time of the restitution session with the parents has to be discussed too. The purpose of the restitution session is to share with the parents my clinical observation, and some explanations about the kid’s behavior and set up the next steps to run.

With regards to the issue, I can treat adults affected by generalized Anxiety, panic attacks, adjustment disorder, OCD, bipolar, depression, relationship difficulties, personality disorder, psychosis, and difficulties in dealing with childhood trauma and experiences.

My approach better suited with people who are willing to understand more about themselves and their behaviors, who are keen to explore the reasons behind them and process the emotions and which role they play in their lives; people who are interested in developing a deep inside about their life and purposes.

It might not fit for people who are looking specifically for tools and strategies, for technique and exercises.

With the regards to children and teens, my expertise focused on:

  • Behavioral and emotional issues including lack of impulse control, video game addiction, kleptomania, truancy, bullying, lying, aggression, displaying of inhibited introvert behavior as well as inappropriate childish behavior, tantrum, emotional and behavioral detachment;
  • Attachment and mood disorders including depression, emotional and social withdrawal, isolation and suicide attempts and suicidal thoughts,
  • Phobias and anxiety ranging from generalized social anxiety and phobias to extensive OCD, fear of darkness, separation anxiety issue
  • Pre and post-adoption support, or support coping with parental divorce.
  • Trauma therapy following physical and sexual child abuse

I also help my clients to improve their parenting strategies, and support spouses while they are going through a separation, divorce, adoption, and single-parenting.   My involvement in this area has led me to assist with many cases of abuse within and outside the family unit. Here in Dubai, I also worked with many couples and families to guide them through the difficult process of moving to a new country.

My therapeutical approach suits better with parents who are struggling with their kids and wish to understand more about why the kids have developed that kind of issue; for parents who wish to be involved and cooperate in their kid’s path and treatment and those who have been seeking for help for a long time without finding any solution.
